SHINGLES RELIEF
What Are Shingles?
Shingles is a viral infection that causes a painful rash. Although shingles can occur anywhere on your body, it most often appears as a single stripe of blisters that wraps around either the left or the right side of your torso.
Shingles is caused by the varicella-zoster virus — the same virus that causes chickenpox. After you've had chickenpox, the virus lies inactive in nerve tissue near your spinal cord and brain. Years later, the virus may reactivate as shingles.
While it isn't a life-threatening condition, shingles can be very painful. Vaccines can help reduce the risk of shingles, while early treatment can help shorten a shingles infection and lessen the chance of complications.
If you ever suffered from chicken pox as a child, you have the potential of having to deal with an outbreak of the dreaded SHINGLES. This happen~ because, although you fought off the initial symptoms of the virus when you were a child, a weakened immune system or stress can cause the viral load in your adult body to flare up Intense pain, (usually around the mid· section of your body) blisters, and redness can all occur Anti-viral medications and pain killers, prescribed by your doctor, can help ease the symptoms. However, if you want to treat your shingles naturally, there are a lot of things you can do to bring yourself some relief. Anti-viral herbs will help your body naturally lower the overall presence of the shingles virus. These include Dandelion, Myrrh, Sage, Pau De Arco, Comfrey, Olive Leaf, Neem, Goldenseal, and St John’s Wort These are good to take throughout the year to make sure the virus doesn't gain enough strength to cause a full on outbreak, but can also be taken to reduce the pain associated with one, should it happen. Essential oils, applied directly to the skin, can calm the pain externally and can also prevent a secondary infection to the open sores, if present.
We make a blend of Lavender, Tea Tree, and Carrot Seed essential oils, mixed with a Sweet Almond Oil base. This blend is called our "Healing Oil". Anti-inflammatory herbs have also been shown to be beneficial in lessening the pain from an outbreak. Our favorite blend is the mixture of Turmeric, Frankincense and Ginger. This will tell the nerve endings to calm down, thus lessening the pain.
